This is probably an easy one for you guys. Truck is a 1991 f250 and the engine is a 5.0? What is the sensor that is located just to the left and above the oil filter? Is it the oil pressure sender? If not than where is the oil pressure sender? I would like to install a mechanical oil pressure gauge.
That should be exactly what it is. I have a '90 F-150 302, but mine is in the same place. Mine quit working a while back and had to be replaced. That one feeds the gauge.
Great. Now i just need to figure out how it comes out. It leeks oil and is hard to see how it is held in. Any suggestions on removal. Also can I just put in a mechanical gauge or do I need to install a "T" so I can still run the dash gauge. What I'm asking is if I disconect the dash gauge will check engine or some other light come on? Tahnks for the help.
Mine screwed into a threaded port in the block. Comes out easier if you do it when your changing the oil and the filter is removed. Don't think mine wanted to come out with filter on. I would probably teflon tape the new one and check torque in your manual. Don't overtighten. Don't know much about mech gauge install. Never done one. I would think you could only run one or the other without a tee or something. Read a post on overheating tonight and I think the thread starter mentioned something about mech. gauge. You could search threads by mech. gauge installation or just mech. gauge and see what you come up with. If nothing, post it.
The oil sending unit requires a special sending unit socket for removal. when you install the new one don't use a gasket sealer or teflon tape, these could possibly interfere with the engine ground the sending unit needs a good ground contact to work properly. You can install a gauge and new sending unit. Easier with oil filter removed. Get 3" long 1/4" pipe nipple along with a 1/4" tee to install the gauge and sending unit. Just be carefull to check for leaks at all joints once you start it back up, if it leaks you could be in for serious problems.
Thanks for the info. I'll have to go get that special socket. I'll be installing the way steamboat suggested, that way the gage on my dash will work as will the new gage I bought for my pillar pods. Thanks a lot guys.
