carb issues
Hi All. I have an 87 F-250 5.8 HO 4Bbl. I just replaced the timing gears, chain, cover, water pump, fuel pump, t-stat. I now have an issue at idle. the engine starts to run rich, smoking exhaust, and then the fuel begins to "percolate" out of the bowl vents, and the engine dies. Timing is spot on and engine runs fine at higher RPMs. Does anyone else think I might have gotten a bad fuel pump?

Sounds like the floats are stuck. Tap on the adjustment nut/screw and see it that unsticks the float. On second thought, that's a 4180, it may not have an adjustable needle/seat. If so, might be a good time to replace it with a 4160 Holley that's fully adjustable.
