Hello All, I have an 87 F-250 5.8 HO 4Bbl over 8400 lbs. I replaces the timing chain, cover, water pump, and fuel pump. Now at idle it will start to run rich, smoke from the exhaust, and fuel will start to"percolate" from the bowl vents. Timing is spot on. Does anyone else think it could be a bad fuel pump?
normally I would check this, but the issue wasn't there until I did this work. The only reason I did these repairs was a coolant leak from between the timing cover and the block. did the timing chain because of the mileage of the engine. the timing cover had a crack in it. the water pump, just because. and the fuel pump because of wear on the pump arm, and oil coming from the vent port on the side of pump.
You've got fuel coming past the needle and seat. Either your new pump is putting too much pressure to the carb or you got some debris in there that's preventing the needle/seat from shutting off the fuel.
