When I bought my truck recently they changed the oil for me while I waited but now I find the importance of using oem filter but I am not sure what they used. Will it hurt anything to remove the filter to check? Also does it have motorcraft stamped on it or any identifying marks?
Ok so I took it off and the cap would not come off filter. So stupid question do you buy filter with new cap or do you have to get aggressive to separate them? I did not see anything telling me the manufacturer so it think I am just going to Change the oil and filter.
When I looked at the picture above I got a sick feeling in my stomach and the only way to make myself feel better is do an oil change and get correct cap and filter. I have a 50 mile round trip and will use the motorcycle to get the stuff to do it.
The filter on the left is at least "filtering" if it's still as it came out of the box. The worst combination is using the tall cap with the shorter Motorcraft filter under it. No filtering is going on with that combo. Motorcraft part number 2016 and the short cap is what you want. Raycor is the manufacturer for Ford and sells the same filter under their brand that is fine also. Fram used to license the exact same filter also but now sells one with some adapters in the box to make it work, those are to be avoided also.
