I have a 1994 f-250 Idi I love the truck to death but it's so gutless I can't take it anymore, I want to know what people have swapped in their trucks and for how much $$$ I appreciate any feedback!
Well, this ~ is an IDI board... so the members here are going to tell you how to get (lots) of power out of your engine, not how to s*** can it and swap something else in...
the best thing to do is put a turbo on, take the muffler off, and turn the fuel up until there is just a very slight smoke haze of full throttle take off from a stop.
That is Justin's truck (owner of IDI Performance) and he has had several different set ups in that truck. I am not sure which parts are on it for that particular dyno, but basically a good turbo, higher output injection pump, Intercooler, and head studs.
Do some research here. Pretty much head studs, a cam, more fuel and boost is what is done to that engine. Some people will freshen up the engine but that is pretty much what you will need to do. That would be a lot easier and cheaper than a swap. And these engines are a lot stronger than people have given them credit for in the past...

He got pretty much usual idi mileage iirc. As for the turbo kit, it depends how much power you want. Kits that were originally made for these are ATS, Banks, and Hypermax kits. If you want more power, Justin sells a kit as well. Check his site out. It had what you would ever need.
Depending on how heavy your rig is, the speeds you run, and your transmission setup you'll get 16-20 MPG.
First thing you need is a turbo. More PSI = more power you can make. If you run it over 12PSI, you want headstuds.
You can get an extra 80HP or so with a standard banks turbo kit and tune up; you can probably find a used one for $500+-. These kits don't make enough boost to need studs, unless you find a wastegated one and wire it shut.
If you want more HP than that, I'd go with Justin's setup, headstuds, and a large RD2 pump - 150cc probably. If you're willing to put multiple grand in parts into it, you can have a motor that'll make a /lot/ of RWHP.
I've just got a Banks Wastegated kit, RD2-110, studs, and I figure I'm making 220+RWHP, which is a /lot/ better than the ~130RWHP it made stock(remember the transmission losses). Feel wise, mine will easily haul trailers and cruise up steep hills in high gear, unlike my other non-turbo'd truck.
the first generation banks turbos were non wastegated. and without a muffler it is very easy to see 14-15 lbs boost.
and you don't need head studs, i have put 490,000 miles on my 88 without them. as a mater of fact, i have never had my engine opened up.
just replaces 2 sets of glow plugs, 3 injector pumps, and 2 sets of injectors. i need new injectors now again though.

start with the basics.you don't dump fuel down the throat of a gas engine in need of a tune up or it'll still run like a ragged out dog.you tune it up first.sames goes for the old school idi;
If it were mine it would be intercooled eventually as well. I also see 14-15psi on my ATS 093. It has a boost controller. No difference in power or egts between 12-15psi. I feel this is in part to the turbo not being as efficient at these levels of boost. I love my old idi. can't wait to throw some money at go fast parts
