You won't find dual idler gear drives in many race cars. Too much to go wrong. The dog bones are thin and like to break. Might be OK with stock springs and in a DD.
Like said,I ran one with a .700 lift solid roller,500lbs springs,7500rpm shifts for 100s of passes and street miles with no issues. Didn't make any noise either, didn't know it was in there. They have to be installed correctly though.
So, just saying my experience with a gear drive that was installed correctly was positive.
the camp gear bolt actually broke and dropped down, not sure if that cause the rod issue or not, but the broken rod is twisted, and the dog bones are in about 20 pcs... it was a cheap dual idler gear drive, but i dont think that had anything to do with it... the heads are still good, just the one piston is broken where the rod went and snapped the wrist pin off it, 2 cylinders on the block have the bottom "skirts" busted off... i had the double coil springs from Alex's site designed for gt40's, but work well in the E7's... everything was fresh, except i re-used my old rods, crank, and cam, i did the valve job myself, only things that saw a shop were the pistons to be swapped onto the rods, and my heads and intake were washed, and a broken bolt extracted from the intake and one head... btw, the cam gear is still firmly in place. lol... but yeah, looks like a fresh start as soon as i find a donor block, this one's gona get bored though, i was a little upset with myself for not doing it this last rebuild...anyone out there know where i could get a decent block and crank to work with?!
