Ok, the swap is all done and I have an engine in the truck that has compression in more than (7) cylinders.
2002, 7.3, 4wd - ~120k miles on trans. Fresh fluid (Mercon V).
Put the gear selector in reverse and it goes right into gear with the normal tug and functions as it should. Put it in low gear and it also appears to work fine. But, when selecting '2' or 'drive' it feels almost like its engaging 2 gears at once?? There is limited forward motion and it feels like the brakes are on. I have not driven further than the driveway yet, but I have a long driveway...
The OD light does not come on. I am not getting any codes from AE, but I really don't know how to use it for transmission stuff (I've been using a different scan tool that I no longer have).
We have not put the bed on the truck, so no tail lights - but 3rd brake light has new bulbs and was working (didn't check this AM though... )
I have a couple other codes, CEL, 'check gauges' and no tach. Gonna start another thread for those issues, I'll put a link here in case its related.
Reverse= good
1st/L =good
2= moves forward with resistance
D= INOP.
The other possibility is loose feed bolts above the valve body, but I am not sure you would still have forward movement in any gear with that issue....just reverse.
Don't take my work for it though, I fix x-ray equipment not transmissions and am by no means a transmission expert.
AE should be able to read trans gear switching, I know Torque Pro will. I know the PIDs are in the PCM.....Couldn't tell you much beyond that. Never tried them on either, Sorry.
OD light does not come on - even when button is pressed.
Truck engages and moves normally in Reverse and "1". In "2" or "D", there is resistance (and slipping?) from a standstill - but it does upshift manually when moving.
I also have no tach, the WTS light stays on and oil temp and trans temp gauges do not appear to be working...
miss one of the electrical connections maybe? Or one of the plugs isn't on all the way?
Thanks Greg. I just went thru all of them again (at least a dozen times total now).
It was a little low on ATF. Added another pint. I think that makes 8 qrts I've put in since draining the transmission before pulling it from donor truck?
I don't know what to look for on AE. Can someone give me some pointers?
The "Overdrive Cancel Switch/Hold Switch" PID doesn't tell you whether or not Overdrive is on or off, but it does change value while the button is depressed. That will atleast tell you if the PCM is acknowledging whether or not you are pressing the button.

I suspect you don't have +12v to the shift solenoids in the transmission. There are two red wires (I don't have the pin numbers) that have +12v to power the solenoids. Check those.
With the shift handle in 2 you will always have second gear, with or without power to the shift solenoids. That can feel like resistance to moving when you're used to first gear starts.
Without power to the shift solenoids and the shift handle in D the transmission will always be in fourth gear, which feels like something major is wrong.

Those are probably related issues. I think you have some wiring problems to take care of.
Thanks Greg and Mark. I have some pinouts and wiring tests I've found in other threads to try tomorow... Still hoping I'll find something not plugged in all the way someplace. This project has been very challenging to say the least.
