My truck blew a decent amount of white smoke today and this isnt the first time and lately my truck has been making different noises then normal . This happens when im hauling things. recently the last few days ive noticed its making those same noises while on the flat and not hauling anything. What could be going on? Or what should I do. Ive heard many different things from turbo going to injectors. Help!! It also has less then 140,000 miles on it.
Can you give us a little history of repairs, was this during a regeneration. White smoke can be fuel, or odd things like high humidity. Is the truck throwing a code, any drivability concerns? Noise coming from the engine while under load or anytime like at idle?
The guys will be along to help and any information can help diagnose what you may be experiencing.
Or head gaskets. I'd park it and get it (towed) to a garage that knows about the 6.4 diesels. Not all shops know about these motors. Have you checked the oil or antifreeze?
So any time its really humid or raining, or just if my truck sits for a few days, the first time I build any boost it blows white smoke like its on fire. Its just condensation in the intercooler and it only lasts 10 seconds or so. This is normal from what I have read. Others have stated after cruising a constant speed for a while, then taking off from a stop (building boost) they may see this. again mostly associated with rain or humidity.
The other possibility as mentioned is head gaskets/coolant. Is your level low? Do you see any white splatter/residue under your hood? Can you smell coolant? Any leaks anywhere?
Do you still have the DPF? Could the truck be trying to regen and there is an issue?
My truck is making some noise, but no smoke. And it varies too. Blue smoke is oil like Maximum 4x4 said. I'd get it to a shop ASAP and figure out exactly what the problem is.
