New Code today?

Just started the truck after not running for a few weeks and drove around fine. Looked down and suddenly a CEL was indicated. Checked it with my Edge Evolution diagnostic mode and Code P0161 came up 2nd bank downstream heater circuit fault. What do you think guys before I bring it into the dealership?

I've also have an exhaust leak in the right passenger side exhaust manifold for about the last year. I've been waiting to install my newer 03' used engine when time and funds permit.

Check the wiring for the downstream sensor on the passenger side for damage. Inspect/reseat the connector. Reset PCM and retest.

If it still fails, swap downstream sensors, reset PCM and retest.

If the fault code moves to a P0141, the sensor now on the driver's side is bad (heater fault). If it stays a P0161, there's a wiring or heater fault.

This, most likely, is a $50 DIY repair job unless there are complications.

If I get the time, I'll do that. I've got my Mom in the Hosp. right now in bad shape and I've been by the phone waiting for news. I suppose Bosch is the best for sensors should I need one? Could that exhaust manifold leak have anything to do with it?

Bosch sensors are fine. If the exhaust leak caused the wiring harness to be damaged, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Best of luck with your mom's health condition.
