I have a 1997 7.3 Obs super cab long bed with the E40D.. I just put in a torque converter lock switch so I can lock it whenever I want (whichever gear). Obviosly I know it is bad to slow down too slow or stop with it locked. My question is, is it bad for the transmission If I let it shift while locked? I think its cool but I dont want to be buying a transmission
The shifts will be really hard if you do. If you use it a lot it will wear out your, I think it's called coast clutch. I used mine a lot for breaking a heavy load but try not to abuse it.
Ok, Thank you for the reply, Is it bad for the tranny to shift hard?

That would depend on when it's shifting hard and what else is happening at that time?
Is it shifting hard from 1-2, 2-3, 3-OD? Does the "OD" light flash when it shifts hard? Have you noticed any other condition during the hard shifting?
Yes, turn off the lock switch when you're slowing down and the transmission needs to downshift, or when you're slowing down and coming to a stop. If it were me, I wouldn't activate the lock switch until I was up to speed and the transmission was done with its shifting duties. If you could wire the switch to deactivate when the brake pedal is pressed, that would eliminate the "forgetfulness" encountered on long drives.
