I am an idiot and put gas in my husbaends 2013 f-250 pickup this morning. It was running while u was filling up because our kids where in it. I got in realized what I had done and killed it without driving anywhere. The truck came and towed it to the ford garage. They can't look at it until tomorrow. I have spent the day crying and beating myself up. Anyone have any info on this they can share. It was so stupid I know
You did the right thing shutting down and not driving. All should be well. If Ford charges more $$ than you're comfortable with, turn it in to insurance. They should cover it. Good luck.

Thanks I feel so bad. They said if it got past the fuel filter it could be $7,000. Does that sound right?

It could be that and more. They'll drain the fuel tank, replace filters, and should inspect other fuel system components as well, but if you got it shut down quick enough (cross your fingers), it hopefully didn't get that far. I know you feel bad, but believe me, you're not the first one to do it. Others here have and will chime in.
If it is more than drop, drain, chain filters, and filling back up with diesel I would call my insurance company.
As it is you may be in for several hundred at least. Heck they want $300.00 around here just to change fuel filters. Now you have to add dropping and draining the tank. Plus, you'll need to get some fresh fuel...
Ford has procedures for this. They will work through those and clean up the tank and lines. The cleanup cost will have a sting to it but it's much better than non-diesel reaching the HPFP. I agree with others, most insurances companies help out with this type of thing if that is needed. We are people, we have distractions and we occasionally make mistakes. This is what I like to call a learning event!
I am the only one that fuels my truck. Not because others arent capable, but because pumping diesel is just not a normal thought process for someone borrowing the truck.
Now, the next thing to remind you and your husband of, is to not pour DEF ito the fuel fill. Thats another big $$$$ item to fix.
I have two fears with my tow vehicle, and I've already committed one of them.
1st is what you did, gasoline in the tank. So far I'm good.
2nd is not locking down the fifth wheel. Several months ago I dropped it on the rear end of my previous truck.
We are human and prone to distractions. Now serve your hubby extra special! and he'll forgive you.
