Found and installed something cool today....

Check this out.

https://youtu.be/l88Wq8UFRzQ

I have since rooted it and did some small updates/modifications. It runs smooth and functions with every app I've installed.

Tethered to my phone, Google maps works great, chrome and Facebook work well and even KODI movies can be watched on it. Not while driving of course.

Cool.
I liked the fact that you can run the app.
One thing about the steering wheel switches and I'll post the PDF for you.
Have a look at page 130-3 the controls are not part of the can-bus. They are a
standalone resistor switch network.

On you fix for the small oops try a fine file and if you start with a new bracket
and a Dremel with this attachment >>> http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Attachme...l.aspx?pid=565
You should be able to make a very clean cut if you use a straight edge to keep
the cutter on a line. Sort of like a fence on a table saw.

Now for a question. Does the unit have it's own GPS system or do you
have to rely on the phone?

Keep us updated on this.

That's interesting. Crutchfield lists the 2005 F350 as having can-bus steering wheel controls. I guess this is the reason they work!

I'm ordering that dremel set right now to correct the terrible job I did earlier. All I had was a box cutter at the time. These double DIN units are slightly larger than than the standard double DIN port. The entire case is a bit larger too, as the brackets on either side of the unit had to be trimmed also.

Answering your question, yes, it does have it's own GPS system (iGo gps) but I opted to use Sygic, mainly because I like how it's laid out, the maps are always current and the maps are offline. The system has a wired GPS antenna that I stuck on top of the defroster duct, under the dash, with 3m 2-sided tape. It can get a signal with no problem from there. I really only use tethering while driving for traffic updates or if I use google maps, since those are internet based.

Also, just for future reference for those who get one of these and find that they need access to developer options; Developer options password = 7890, Extra Settings password = 123456, USB Debugging password = john@tw-desktop

Have you loaded Torque Pro on to it yet? That would be a killer setup, imho.

Thanks for doing the video. Question, when you change screens from Torque APP to something else, can you return to Torque APP without having to wait for it to connect?

Yes, very true. I found a unit that will hold 100's of movies that I can plug into my Pioneer deck. Kind of a hard drive.

I mainly use my phone and Pandora for music now. I did see that there is a way to share my phone screen on my deck. ISimple Medialinx. Problem might be needing to remove the deck to access the connections. But, then, I could have Torque APP on the screen.

And, no, it doesn't seem to have the CD slot.

It does exit the monitor screen but it stays connected.

No, it doesn't have a DVD slot. I did not want it as I use KODI for that now. There are others that work similar to this one that do have a DVD tray though. They do have a slightly smaller screen.

Since I've posted this, they've come out with a quad core unit with Android 4.4.4.

Look into KODI and tvaddons.ag, you'll never go back to DVDs.

I'm going to make another video next week showing all of the functions this thing can actually do. It's really a good unit with a ton of functionality.
