Thanks for all your help. After cleaning the veggie solenoids of a bit of gunk and replacing the lift pump I finally found a tiny air leak in the fuel line just before the injection pump. Replaced that line and it's running like a dream! Seattle here I come! Thanks again to everybody who chimed in!
Wow, a lot of people have taken interest! I'm not confused about not having a dedicated lift pump for wvo. The mechanical stock pump works quite well for both veg and diesel. I bought this truck specifically for that reason. I know quite a few people in this area doing the same thing for many miles. Also, if it does fail it's pretty easy and much cheaper than an electric pump to replace. The system is confusing without a diagram to understand it but the important pieces are these. I do have a separate 40 gallon Greasecar tank with heated lines. All my veg lines have been replaced with a different kind of line (I don't remember what it's called), but it's not rubber and it stands up to grease. The fuel (both veg and diesel) is always filtered by a diesel filter, but it has two diesel filters. One is heated and filters only veg, the other one is the stock one and filters only diesel. This is part of the reason I need switching solenoids before and after the lift pump. When I say T'd. I do mean a literal T between the stock diesel filter and the IP. In theory you would be correct that some of the veg would get sucked in when on diesel except for the fact that when I backflush (literally reverse the flow) I fill my veg lines and veg filter with diesel. When I switch back into regular diesel mode the veg line solenoids are closed preventing anything to be drawn from the tank through that side. Anything minimal amount that get sucked out of the veg side at the T just before the IP is going to be pure diesel from the backflush that reversed the flow. I'll try to upload a diagram of my fuel system but I AM moving to Seattle and I've already given away my scanner. I've been running this system for about 15,000 miles over 4 years and it works great. This is a road trip vehicle, not a daily driver although I make sure to run it frequently just to keep everything moving. Almost all my issues have been with the fact that it's a 20 year old truck with mostly original parts. This is the first veg issue I've had. I do like the idea of swapping all the copper for aluminum, but time and money will have to magically appear (mostly time) for that to happen. I've got a gazillion things I'd love to do to this truck. It all falls down to prioritization and right now everything seems to be working. Thanks for everybody's help. oh, you have a selector valve before the lift pump then.
I'd be really hesitant to have veg sitting in my diesel filter. Both the filter head, bleeder line, and schrader valve are not designed to have veg flowing thru it, even if it is diluted.
In my kit, I put the supply-side selector valve at the line for the IP. This is good because my WVO system and Diesel system are completely separated. If anything goes wrong, it automatically defaults to the stock system. in your kit, if somehting goes wrong, you could theoretically pump your vo tank with diesel or your diesel tank with VO. Also, if something goes wrong with either system, you can switch to the other side to get out of a jam. This has happened to me a handful of times in my van and my jetta, using the VO system as a lifeboat to get to a shop or home. redundancy is great.
regardless, looks like you are doing well with your vehicle, good luck on your road trip. be sure to remove that copper when you get the chance. I suspect you'll have polymerization on the inside.... so sooner the better.
