Hey guys I'm working on a 92 F-250 7.3 IDI that has been sitting for a few years, It runs pretty good at idle but up around 2000 rpm it breaks up a little and white smokes at startup pretty bad too.
the fuel filter looks old so I'm gonna change it but I'm told filling it with diesel injector cleaner first is a good idea because it saves me from having to get a can with diesel fuel in it and it will also clean out the injection system.
I just don't know what to use.....Seafoam? Diesel Kleen?
What do you guys recommend? Theres this stuff at Napa for Diesels that they highly recommend, It's in a purple and silver can and has a german name but i can't remember it?
Well your headed down the right road. I have used both ATF and Diesel Kleen... I prefer the DK.
First warm up the truck real good.
Pull old filter and toss it.
Fill New filter with diesel kleen.
Start truck let run 10 to 15 seconds and shut it down.
Let truck sit as long as possible up to 24 hours.
Warm it up and drive it like ya stole it for 10 to 15 miles.
This will clean out your injectors and could make it feel like a new truck again.
Err well i found Half gallon of DieselKleen in my garage closet so guess what i'm using......
Thanks for the help I just wanted to make sure it was safe to do so, I know in my cummins i just hold the filter under the spot where the fuel comes out then i pump the priming lever and fill it up that way. lol
Thanks for all the help guys it turned out great, Cleared up all whtie smoke and made it run 100% better i couldn't be more happier.
I put on a Motorcraft filter and FILLED it with a full quart of Diesel Kleen.
it fired right up and didn't run bad at all, me and my buddy quickly pushed the shrader a little air came out then shot a stream !
i can't believe how much better it runs, we let it run for 5 minutes then took it out and floored it and it runs really well, not as slow as i thought. im sure the 4.10's help alot.....let it sit overnight then do the same thing tomorrow morning when i take it over to get the driver side seat sewed up
