EOT vs ECT on a 6.0

Got me the scangauge2 with the coupon code I found here for $50 off at AdvanceAuto.
Have been monitoring the ECT vs EOT the past couple of days
ECT is 190
EOT is 201
70 MPH highway constant speed
Looks like my oil cooler isn't quite up to par, what I read is, delta 15 degrees max, used to be 20
Stock configuration, you wouldn't know this with the Exursion gauges Ford provides
Will be pulling my hybrid camper which weighs 5500lbs loaded, with 6 passengers next weekend
Now I'm a bit concerned

I don't think that is too much of a spread to be worried about. The big question is how quickly do the temps come down when you come to a stop. An 11 degree difference isn't at 70 with everything being constant wouldn't stop me from going anywhere, that's about what I see between 70 and 75. Keep an eye on it, slow down if necessary and be prepared to do a coolant flush and oil cooler if it gets much worse. With six passengers and a camping trip you have other things to stress about. Enjoy your trip.

15 degrees is when you start thinking about an oil cooler change. And that's 15 degrees under normal driving conditions. Pulling a camper, 6 people, and associated gear will result in higher deltas. This is normal.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Enjoy your trip. Your cooler sounds fine.

Cheers,

Nate

Also your at 70 rather then 60 which asks the high pressure oil system and motor to work the oil harder so the oil temp will be raised a little.

I used to be like you and worry about my high delta's. I could get 15 deg delta doing 75-80 mph. That is I could get that delta after running 75-80 for about 40 minutes straight. Then I bought a 14K fifth wheel and towed it from Tucson Arizona to Tampa Florida and I could not be happier with the oil cooler performance under load. I think you should keep your eye on EOT (while towing) and if it runs over 235 for any length of time then get it checked out. On my trip to Tampa I got EOT 235 once in Dallas Texas for about 2-3 minutes. I am not worried about it.

To the op. Relax and don't worry about it. There are some here that have run at 11 degrees for years and it never changed.

I am no expert on this. I used to keep my eye on 230 EOT. On my trip I did get over 230 EOT two times. I did see 235 EOT only once. Each time was just a few minutes.

another question here,
if i have an external coolant filter, egr cooler delete, and extra coolant lines taped from the t stat to the rear of the heads for the back 2 cylinders, do i still need to be concerned with a 15 degree delta?
i also have a new oil cooler, and i seem to have a 10+ delta almost all the time.
the deltas were lower before i had the piece of mind work done.

Rereading my original post I mistyped. It should be
ECT 190
EOT 211 ( not 201)
which is a 21 degree differential.

The purpose of the 15 degree diff. is to show a failing oil cooler to protect the egr cooler. With or without an egr cooler you can still have a failing oil cooler that will make a pure mess of the entire cooling system among other not so good things.
