The purpose of the 15 degree diff. is to show a failing oil cooler to protect the egr cooler. With or without an egr cooler you can still have a failing oil cooler that will make a pure mess of the entire cooling system among other not so good things.
i know that, just wondering, considering what i have done, would the deltas still be an accurate test of the oil coolers health?
Is it puking coolant from the degas?Drinking coolant or blowing it out the exhaust?
Did a shop tell you that? Lots of shops that don't know what they are doing, let alone actually diagnose it correctly. A ruptured EGR could cause them to say the same thing. Pull the EGR valve and look for moisture inside the intake after parking nose down.
If your delta was 20+, you need an oil cooler as well. The difference in head gasket job and oil cooler job could be $3000-7000 difference. Make sure they know what their doing.
Yes degas has spit some coolant. EGR valve is clean. One of my sons baseball team-mates father knows the mechanic. The shop works on a lot of Powestrokes, in fact he owns and drives a highly tuned 6.0.
If I'm going to fix it, it will be
Head gaskets
Studs
Oil cooler
EGR cooler or delete
Have the heads totally gone through
Up pipe stand pipe blah blah blah
