3 Speed Question

Ok Transmission questions. I have a 3 speed..I dont know exactly what one but something seems a foul. Previous owner said the rods were backwards and he jerry rigged a shifter in. Either way gears were To the right and up was 1, right down R, left down 2, left up 3. So I replaced it today with a Mr Gasket 7669A and im baffled. It switched which should be right but its Left UP 1, Left Down R, Right Down 2, Right Up 3.
Shouldnt it be Left Up R, Left Down 1, Right Up 2, Right down 3? Do i have some weird 3 speed transmission or is it correct as is?

Ford type 3.03 3 Speed Manual all Syncromesh Transmission.

TRANS code C stamped on the Warranty Plate, riveted to the left door face below the latch.

Left upper in pic: 7326 is 2nd/3rd shift rod / 7328 is 1st/reverse shift rod.

Look at the pic Bill posted. Is it possible that you have the 1st-Rev arm upside down on the trans?
