I'm pretty sure you can. I haven't done it, but if you remove the rotor the sensor is there and I don't recall any kind of retaining nut on the rotor side that has to be removed first. Just the square probe part of the sensor sticking out is what I remember. Should unbolt from the back side.
Yes, It is held in by a small bolt from the back, I just wonder if the sensor has to be oriented a particular way?
I've never replaced 1 before either.....seems that the sensor would have to enguage the teeth in the rotor somehow......
I'm in the middle of a MAJOR front brake job (replacing everything with new) and have had an ABS light on for a while traced to the front, so with 142k on a 16 year old truck I just ordered new sensors for both sides......getting OEM Motorcraft from my local Bennett Auto Supply!
i knew us 2wd drives had ABS, (its saved me a few times), however, whats then the harness plug on each side of the wheels, thats pinned up against the backside firewall?...plug for 4wd?

Timmy, I have no real idea what you are saying...........
Super..theres 2 dormant plugs 91 at each side) to the rear of the front fender wells, pinned up/hanging, from the frame. Always thought they were for abs, lol..was just wondering what they were for...
Well Guys, Evedentally someone ordered MY L99 with ABS!!
I ended up getting actual MOTORCRAFT replacements from my friends at Bennett Auto Supply, they went in pretty easy.....I DID unbolt them while I had the rotors off, and ended up tapping on them to knock them through.......they were kinda tight, but they came out nonetheless, my MAJOR front brake job is complete, just need to bleed in the AM!!
