Hub replacement

Time to change out the hub assemblies. Rock Auto showing fine thread and coarse thread studs. Which one do I have?

It's kind of hard to tell from a pic, but they look to be fine thread. If not, you can always swap them from the hub you remove. Also, be aware that the new hub may not include new mounting studs and nuts, in which case you'll have to remove and swap those, or pick up 4 new ones.

I was looking at the Timken SP580205 (fine thread);

More Information for TIMKEN SP580205

and 515020 (coarse thread);

More Information for TIMKEN 515020

Looks like they come with studs in M14x1.5 and M14x2, respectively.

Another thing I need to check is whether I have 4 or 2 wheel ABS

If you cannot get a definitive answer you could take the nut to HD or Lowes and see what kind of bolt the nut fits on. That would tell you if the studs are coarse or fine.

I was hoping the pics would tell the story but yes, if they can't be identified here, I'll have to take it to a nut/bolt business to ID the threads (the truck is in the caribbean, no HD etc

How many threads in 1"

1.5 would be fine/16.93

2.0 would be course/12.70.

What year is your truck? I thought the fine threads were for the 03 1/2+ and ours were all course threads? I know me 2002 is course threaded.

The ABS thing is easy, turn you wheels and see if you see an electrical connection going into the center of the hub assembly just behind the rotor, follow this up and it should go to an round electrical connector above your wheel liner. You have a 4x4 judging from the pic, so you should have 3 lines going down to the wheel, one for the brake line, one for the ABS and 1 for the 4x4 vacuum.

Bingo! Easy way to verify w/o having to turn the key and go somewhere useless. Thanks tjmike

I found a conversion chart here;

Pitch Conversions threads per inch TPI pitch in inches and pitch in mm for taps and dies

Off to count threads

2003. Definitely have ABS up front. Was not clear on 2 wheel ABS (front 2?) vs 4 wheel ABS (all 4?)

You'll want to order the 4 mounting bolts from Ford. Unless you have a Welders Torch to get the current ones out. I think they're like $27 stateside. NO ONE ELSE Sells them.

I tried every outlet I could think of to include Fastenall and some others. I did find one place that advertised them shipped for $10 in Canada. Ordered them while I was waiting of the Motorcraft. They weren't correct.

If you want to know without taking the hub unit somewhere (and don't trust your thread counting) take a lug-nut to any auto store. In the lug nut section they have studs mounted on a board with thread identification....see if your nut threads onto a 1.5 or a 2.
