Welcome...back?

I've been back a couple days after being gone for a few months on a job site

Anyway...Ex needs head, so who has experience in doing this in a garage, and what would I need for a hoist and cradle to get started?

ARPs of course, EGR cooler delete, water pump and injectors whilst I'm in there. Oil cooler was done about 10k ago, and I did the blue spring in March. Diesel site coolant filter is on the list too. Anything else big I'm missing?

Do you plan on doing it in truck or pulling the engine?

I don't have a hoist or cradle, so I'm probably going to have someone do it. The dealer here gave me a quote of $4,800 plus $750 for the ARP studs. Two year warranty with that, but any shop will stand behind their work. If they don't; then the court will make them.

Seems like a lot of work for someone like me to pull off, especially without a lot of experience in this area. How many of you have done it, would have tools, and want in compensation to help me do it?

So with an oil leak like this I'm starting to think that it might not be the heads. How about the HPOP? Should this throw any codes, or what else should I see if this is leaking a bunch?

How bad is the oil leak? Where is the oil leaking on the ground from......the front of the engine or the back? Best thing to do would probably be to clean all the old oil off the engine and then run it and you should be able to get a better idea where it is leaking from. If all you have is an oil leak I am not sure why you would need head gaskets.

Agree. Are there other symptoms leading to the head gasket need? Or just thought that was the leak?

I guess I could have mentioned that I did clean it off and see where it's coming from. The dealer told me it would be be heads, so I naturally believed them. When you really crawl up in there it seems that it's coming from the back cover for the HPOP. It's running down both sides and thus appears on the heads, and alas...the deal says I need heads. I'm thinking it's going to be the STC.

It leaks only when it's running and it seems that it isn't that much, and with 1k on this oil change I don't see any appreciable difference on the dipstick.

STC won't cause an external leak. So you have a leak from either the turbo, hpop cover or related, oil cooler, oil filter housing, or even cac boot.

The leak isn't coming from the front of the valley and draining back, is it?

It's something because even idling I'm getting a little puddle now.

It doesn't appear to be. The top and front looks clean.

So now that I'm headed to BIR next weekend I would like to get this fixed. I don't know if I have the skill, and time to get it done in a week. Would anyone be interested in working for cash to help me out, or trading labor or something?

Bring it down to the shop on Monday and we can take a look at it and see what it is and make a plan.

If it is making a puddle just sitting there idling it should be fairly easy to track down the leak.

I didn't think it was this bad. I usually let it run 5-10 before I leave since I live close to 694. Never noticed oil on floor before.
