Fort Worth 6.0L EGR/Oil Cooler Help
I'm a business owner in Fort Worth and have over 20 6.0's that I'm trying to keep running. My mechanics are overwhelmed and I'm looking for an expert in the metroplex to help me out. Ideally someone who can come to our shop and help with several trucks while training one of my guys how to diagnose/fix the major 6.0 issues - EGR cooler, oil cooler, injectors, FICM type stuff. A shop recommendation would be great as well.
Most of the trucks just recently came out of the extended Ford warranties so we're looking at bulletproofing them now. I'm really torn between investing the money to bulletproof them versus dumping them and buying new trucks. 20 new trucks is a huge investment and if there's any way I can keep my 6.0's running a few more years that would be great!

A mechanic makes his living by fixing things, not by teaching others how to fix it themselves. They pay rent or a mortgage to have a shop, not to visit yours.
If you want your guys to learn, let them start reading FTE on the clock and search and ask questions up in the 6.0 section. There's a lot of good information, mixed in with some bad, up there. Everything they need to know in terms of bulletproofing the 6.0 is available here at FTE. They just need to spend the time to learn about it.
Of find a mechanic to do it all for you and let your guys focus on doing whatever it is that your business does. Whatever you do, just make sure to stay on top of fluid and filter changes. That is the single most important thing you can do.

Wow, I am basically a service technician in another field(IT). In my field we are called IT consultants but basically the same concept. I get hired all the time to work with client staff in training on new technology and devices and how to work on them. Your reply seems unnecessarily dickish to what seems a reasonable request from someone who obviously understands what he would like to happen and I am sure is willing to pay a reasonable rate for it. Let's hope all deisel mechs on here aren't as cocky about what they do and understand the value in being considered an expert in their field. My guess is that you are not.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm not sure what your profession is, but since you are called a consultant, not a technician, there is, by definition, a difference.
I'm sure if the OP could find a diesel consultant, he would easily be able to find what he desires. But since the field is filled with either technicians or schools that are designed to train, the choices are there. I didn't make up what's available. Just simply pointing out what's out there.
I haven't been called dickish in at least a week, so thanks again for that.

i agree with chris. there is no shortcut or kill 2 birds wit 1 stone kinda thing. just about all of us six-oh guys learned things the hard way. blood and sweat included. also, to be fair to all six-oh owners, and i'm sure they would all agree with me, there is no standard set of protocols or steps to take with the 6.0. there are a bunch of things to do but every problem is different. i could go on and on forever, but the reason why anyone would have a response towards a true six-oh owner is because u don't know a darn thing about even owning one.
tats why we have tis great site called FTE. come find us in the 6.0 part of the forum. we have stickies and common problem resolutions within tat part of the forum.
to the OP, if y'all were closer to houston, i'd recommend a shop tat does great work. Powerstroke enginuities. great bunch of guys and they know way they're doing. the owner is also a veteran like myself. he's marine and i'm army. lol.
anyway, tis aint intended as an attack on anyone. just setting the record straight. merry x'mas y'all!
