The running boards on my 99 Explorer Sport were rusty so I bought a nerf bar kit. Upon removing the running boards I learned that they are bolted to the rocker panel using zeus clips. Unfortunately the the driver side rocker is rusted through and I can't use it to mount the nerf bars.
My question is this: Has anyone mounted the bars on an Explorer by mounting them to the frame, if so were you able to get mounting hardware or did the job require fabrication of mounting brackets? I ask this because the larger trucks seem to have no problem mounting the bars to the frame.
I noticed that there have been 91 review, but no one has tackled this issue. I found a website in which someone did attach nerf bars to the frame of a 99 Explorer and even suggested that if enough people were interested he would offer the brackets for sale. Unfortunately the individual passed on. There must be at least one more person who has accomplished this task.
