7.3 IDI front driver-side lift point

I have three OEM lift points. I bet there was a fourth for the front driver's side.

I have two empty tapped holes just outboard from the IP, and was wondering if the original lift bracket bolted in there.

I know I will probably be OK lifting with just three, but I would rather have the four if there is an easy fix (like fab-up a bracket and use the two holes).

So, I'd appreciate hearing where the original bracket went. Thanks,

Roy

OK, since posting I have gone back to the shop manual...and, it seems the motor came with just three lift points.

I would, kind of, like to know what was bolted to those two holes. Diagrams in the manual show a round, when viewed from the top, thing. Which I don't have. It had what looks like a fluid line coming from the front of the engine. Looks kind-of like a diaphragm, of some sorts.

Isn't that where the fuel filter housing goes on the van IDI's?

Interesting.

The thought of this motor in a van makes me cringe. I find it a damn tight fit in the truck.

True. I have an '89 D250 with the Cummins...now, there is an engine compartment.

My best ever: '61 International 3/4-ton with an I6 220 ci motor. You could just about stand between the motor and inner fenders. No PS, PB, or AC to clutter things up with.

The best to work on was my '69 F600 with a 300/6. You could literally stand on the ground beside the engine in the engine bay. That's how we got the head off and back on.

Yup, the world is different w/o fenders, firewalls, and radiators in the way.

With new cars, I just buy the most bomb-proof one I can find at about 100k, and hope for no issues until 200k. It often works great. I have a '96 Tacoma with only 105k on it. With a little luck, I will never have to worry about the complexities of its computer before it hits 200k.

Of course, the Tacoma is low on today's complexity scale.

those 2 holes, as far as ive heard are for a fuel filter on a van,
on the OBS models, equipped with turbos, they are a mount for the air box.

if you want another lift point, pull one out of a junkyard.
bolt it to the #2 cylinder intake runner, and lift.

i dont like those things, so i pull them off after an install.
put them in my parts bin for the next pull.

screw new vehicles, i prefer my rides with no fenders!

Right. Something or other for vans...

I now know it would not make any sense to suspect the holes as a lift point. They seem to be blind holes into the manifold only. Not something you'd want to reef on.

I have not decided if I'll go with three lift points, or do as you suggest and install a 4th. The time is getting close, however, and I'll decide in the next day or two.
