78 351m

Looking for some part numbers and upgrades you have done. I have a 78 f250 build on here which i plan to drop a big 460 in way down the road. For now im doing some upgrades on the 351m. I want to swap the stock 2v intake (non emissions) for a 4v alluminum one without emissions (egr). I plan to run a 4bbl holley 650cfm. (Carb will also be used on the 460). I need a part number for an afternarket 4v intake that will work with holley carbs. Ive looked up and im just seeing tons of intakes and not sure which one will work for what i want.

Next upgrade is longtube headers. Has a 3inch body lift and 4 inch suspension lift. Which headers will work inframe without rubbing? Truck is a 4x4. Married transfer case f250.

I just put new plugs and 8mm wires in my truck. I want to swap the dizzy, coil and ignition box for msd. Which ones did you guys use and can you post a link for the swap guide. Ive heard resister wire has to be taken out to use a msd coil.

Holley Performer 400 is for the 351M/400. Be careful with used ebay/craiglist finds. There are decent ones available but the sweet taste of a good deal will be replaced with the sour taste of getting something that's tired. Search the thread, you may find reviews from guys that have done what you're wanting to do.

Good luck

Changing the timing chain makes a world of difference on the 351M. The stock chains are retarded 5 degree, and just get worse as they stretch. Get a 71' chain with no timing retard and they are completely different motor.

As far as headers L&L, Maddog, Hedman, Flowtech, Hooker. Inside the frame on a 4x4...I am not a fan, expect some possible headache with routing the collectors and the crossmember. It can be a PITA.

Unfortunately the 351m and 400 will always be under sold and cursed due to voodoo, jiffy lube, shop boy talk superstition..

I stand by my 351m supercab and 400 dually all day long, It'll be a cold day before I pitch em in the pile

Holley 670 street avenger a good carb for a mild built 351m/ 400 with a 4speed transmission?

Im not doing any internal upgrades. Intake, carb and exhaust thats all. I did a strait up timing set awhile ago. Im really thinking i want the holley 670 street avenger. From what ive read people use that on 460s as well. So its a bonus for me. Anyone ran that carb with a 4 speed? It has a kickdown linkage for auto trans. Do i just leave that alone since mines a 4 speed or do i need to buy a carb without the kickdown linkage?

They are great motors. Mine will be put into my 78 bronco down the road. For now i just want a few upgrades before i begin the long rebuild of my 460. Everyone sais theres no replacement for displacement. But these 351m/400 can keep up with 460s just fine. When i do put it in the bronco i will be ordering alot of parts from tim and possibly his new hi rise intake.

Sorry to do this here but I'm not how to use DM on my phone. I have a set of long tube headers for a '78 f100 with a 351M 4x4 with an auto trans. If you're interested let me know.
