01 F250 not going into gear

Having trouble with the truck going into gear. It started by having to put the truck in first and manually shift until in drive, once it finally engaged and would drive normal. But now im having trouble with going into gear at all. What could be the issue????

Could be loose feed bolts, failed overdrive one way clutch, or a failed forward clutch. What does the ATF look and smell like?

Hi Mark the trans fluid looks good but does smell a little burnt. Just out of curiosity I just started it put it in first gear an after a few seconds it would engage then I tried second an drive an nothing. I'm not a mechanic by any means I'm baffled that it will go in first gear and Reverse but nothing else. Now if I take it on the road in first gear it will go into second an drive but the RPM's are high while manually shifting.

My guesses are loose feed bolts, failed overdrive one way clutch, or a failed forward clutch.

They are internal. Unless you have x-ray vision it sounds like a tear down and inspection is in order.....my guess anyway.

To get to the feed bolts remove the pan and the valve body. Then they will be obvious.

If they are not loose, then the trans has to come out and get torn down.

I wish but no I do not have x-ray vision so I guess that needs to be removed from what I'm hearing thanks.
