This lock will quickly and easily be removed and installed by me with the key...
True, I think each "thing" has their own benefits. I don't ever need to remove my tailgate, but if I do using a nutdriver for a few seconds isn't all that bad. If I had to remove my tailgate often, the hose clamp may not be the best choice.

Locks have several weaknesses, mostly they rust/freeze up. A quick and easy removal solution - once its gone too far - is to drill the keyhole out. Maybe 10 seconds to defeat that secure/frozen lock.

The Master lock unit is stainless steel and brass.
Less inclined to rust up. But things do happen.

If your truck is already equipped with a lockable tailgate, you should check this out, http://www.popandlock.net/image/cach...50-500x500.jpg. I have this on my truck and it is tied into the door locks. Lock/unlock you truck and the tailgate does the same, great feature!

I have a hose clamp that I was going to put on the tailgate to keep the "release hinge" captive, but then it would be a royal PITB to take off if/when I needed to.

I was following along on another thread when E02SeaBee posted a link to this device made by Master Lock:
Amazon.com: Master Lock 8253DAT Tailgate Lock: Automotive
Amazon.com: Master Lock 8253DAT Tailgate Lock: Automotive

After watching the Mike Rowe video on installation (which takes all of five seconds) I was sold... Free shipping with Amazon Prime and under $16

What are you guys doing for that additional piece of mind?
I ended up buying the Master Lock, thanks for the info !!

plus I keep the tailgate locked at all times...

The McGuard piece looks like a solid contender too!
Mine came with the velcro, and it doesn't move around.

I hope to be buying a new truck in a few months and was curious if Ford ever tied the tailgate lock into the electric door locks. Apparently not.

For the price we pay for these trucks, and how simple it would be for Ford to make the tailgate lock with the doors.... it's crazy that it isn't standard equipment.

Agreed, the new 150's will lower the tail gate with the remote control.

Same here Tom... Took twice as long to get it out of the package as it did to install...

I hear you.... But then they would have to charge us another $10 on a truck that is already 65k (in my case)... Prolly a deal breaker eh?
