4EOD vs. ZF5 t-case adapter

Hi,

I own a 4EOD in my '90 F350; it's bolted to an adapter which bolts to the BW1356. I am about to sell the 4EOD as I want a ZF.

My question: I assume the 4EOD and ZF adapters are different, and I will not have any use for the 4EOD/1356 adapter; is that right?

That 1356 6-bolt housing/adapter is not needed with the ZF5 ---lengths are all different (e.g. drive shafts)

The ZF bolts directly to the transfer case, or does it use a unique adapter?

It is JUST like the E4OD. The rear housing of the trans bolts to the t-case

OK, thanks.

I think the thing I am calling the E4OD adapter, you are calling the rear housing. In any case, it seems clear, I won't need it with a ZF.

That part you're pointing at is the tailshaft housing which is sometimes called the extension housing. There's a 2wd and 4wd version available but it's considered part of the transmission even though it's removable. So you can sell it with the trans.

The ZF you need will have to be a 4x4 version as well so that the transfer case bolts up, a 2wd ZF will NOT work. I've also been told you can use a ZF from an F-Super Duty (OBS F-450) because the driveline mounted parking brake uses that same bolt pattern and output shaft.
