149 tooth flywheel??????

So I've been having starter issues since I replaced my C6 tranny in my F100 300 4.9. The engines a total Frankenstein and no idea what year its from. I counted the teeth on the flywheel and I only counted 149, is that a common thing? Should i switch flywheels? Or would a different starter work? Thanks guys!

We will need more information Cole. What is the starter doing or
not doing? I can't answer you quarry as to the tooth count.
I thought there was only two different ones.

The starter engages and starts the engine but once its running i can hear somthing rubbing the flywheel as it spins, I've tried shims but that just makes the starter grind hard. The engine used to be fuel injected but sombody put a carb on it.

Cole check the dust cover over the flywheel. I had a noise like that and the dust cover was rubbing the flywheel.

No such thing as a 149T flexplate for any year 240 or 300 I-6!
D5TZ-6375-A .. 300 I-6 C6 Flexplate (aka Flywheel)-164 teeth / 4 converter attaching holes on a 11 13/32" bolt circle / Available from Ford - MSRP: $132.72.

Applications: 1975/96 Econoline / 1978/96 F100/350 / 1980/96 Bronco.

The flexplate must match the harmonic balancer. If not, there will be a vibration, which eventually will tear the center from the flexplate. Not Pleasant!

The flexplate is retained to the converter with 4 lock nuts. These nuts should only be used once. When the nuts are removed, the nylon insert within the threads breaks off.

If used more than once, the nuts will begin to back off, causing the flexplate to wobble on the converter.

378941-S441 .. Converter Lock Nut / Available from Ford - MSRP each: $1.96 / Same: Ford-O-Matic - FX/FMX/MX Cruise-O-Matic - C4 - C6 - AOD - E40D

Yes check that dust cover. Also can you pull the starter and post
pic's of the gear on the starter and the teeth on the flex? So we can
get some idea what is grinding and wearing. When you have it out
check the bushing in the front end of the starter end frame for any
play.
also you said you changed out the C6. Is the Block Plate installed?
Is it the proper one?
