the starter rebuilder put my starter back on, and thought the new bendix was bad cause of how she grinded. he pulled it, tested it, and says their is two teeth gone on the flywheel cause he pulled the dust cover and turned flywheel. he said he wouldnt worry bout it. ideas?
two will turn into 3 and 3 will turn into 4 plus they will take out the starter drive. Might be able to run it for a while like that but it won't take too many times of the engine stopping on that spot to make it worse.
Happened when I got my truck. Had a shop replace it (called Flex-Plate on auto trans) I didn't have the time or tools. Starter would grind. If yours is bad enough that it grinds alot I would replace it
mine only ground the once, at the shop. never done it on me. they said someone had turned key with her running. how do you not hear a patterin powerstroke straight piped running?
How long have you owned the truck? maybe it has been like that for a long time. I would just give it a shot and see what happens. It will let you know when its getting worse!
i had it a year last september and never a prob. my guess is i had someone move it in a parking lot or barn lot and they hit the key not paying attention
the flex plate is cheep enough its like 100 - 150 bucks but you gotta pull the tranny back unbolt it from the tc and then the crank then remount it. I did mine while I had the tranny out I had no choice mine cracked in a perfect circle around the crank bolts. I guess the banging tranny finally killed it. well I since replaced both and no problems yet knock of wood!! Autozone can order them I think I payed 90.00 for mine.
