Cab to frame grounding.

I have a 96 F150 regular cab 4x4. On the passenger side underneath there is what looks like a ground from the cab to the frame. It is about 10" and looks like woven copper wire. Mine is broken.
What purpose does it serve?
Could it cause problems because it is broken?
How do I fix it.(where do I find the part)?

it is a ground wire, and should be replaced. you do not HAVE to use the braided copper ground strap, i use short battery cables with no problems.

Replace it… it's there for a reason.

are yours the slide on style? I have a broken one too. Mine are the style that have slide on ends where they slide on the frame edge and body edge. No bolts/screws needed.

Well it makes sense that you'd want both the chassis and cab to be at the same potential (voltage) so yes I'd say you should replace it. I think trucks with the tow package had an extra strap like that to bond the frame to the cab and ensure the trailer is grounded.

I wouldn't bother putting the braided ground strap back on, go get a 4GA (or better) battery cable with screw terminals on both ends and use that. Make sure you clean and then protect your new ground points.

These trucks need better grounding.

It's mainly a car audio thing, but read into "The big 3" upgrade. I'm not an advocate of requiring 1/0GA wire for everybody like most car audio sites suggest, but it really makes a huge difference, and practically anything is better than what the factory gave us.
