Before anyone starts flaming this, just consider the idea first. No question the Raptor is the best factory off-road truck that has ever been, and probably ever will be. But like anything, there is always room for improvement, and probably the best place for improving the Raptor is under the hood. We are all aware of the 5.4's limitations and various issues, and though the 6.2 is a big improvement, it seems to be something of an orphan now. Other than a couple of turbo and supercharger kits there isn't much out there for this engine, and now that it has been dropped I don't expect the aftermarket to put much more effort in it. The rumored 7.0 version never happened.
Here's the idea: GM LS swap. Looks like a nice fit, limitless potential, many transmission choices. Crate engines, stand alone electronics, lots of aftermarket. Imagine a plug and play supercharged 6.2 LS.
This would be directed more towards older Raptors with 5.4's. I know some guys that have been talking about this. I personally don't like 'cross breeds' (except in the case of '56 pickups) but this might have a lot of potential.
A supercharger on a 6.2L would be plenty on a street driven pickup. Procharger did an article with a Ford and GM 6.2L with superchargers on them and claimed over 500 horsepower and over 480 ft/lbs of torque. That's pretty nuts.

This is a hot topic amongst hot rod guys.......personally I wouldn't care why not replace an under powered 5.4 with an LS engine with unlimited build potential. ....it's a motor
Personally, I'd rather see some variant of the 5.2L flat plane crank engine that's going into the GT350, at a naturally aspirated 526HP. Now THAY would be nuts in the Raptor. Probably would cost a pretty penny, but everything gets LS swapped these days... just sick of seeing it. Plus not a fan of the "cross-breads" as mentioned.
The LS family has so many available parts and options it is crazy. Having said that, integrating the vehicle's existing electronics to talk to the LS motor isn't a walk in the park by any means. In my former life as a Toyota FJ Cruiser owner there was one member who swapped in a LS1. The FJ is pretty basic electronics wise. Especially in '07 with non chipped keys. It took some work but he was able to do it. I don't know how much more involved it would be to get the Raptor electronics to work but it seems it would be way more cost effective to improve the existing 5.4.
On a side note, the owner of the company I work for just purchased a new Raptor. I am not brand loyal but he has always been a Ford man. the 6.2 did not quite have enough power for his 70 years young soul and had the dealer order up the Roush supercharger. At 590hp it puts a smile on his face every time he drives it.
One of the higher-ups where I work has a supercharged 6.2L Raptor. I talked to him briefly, he claimed 608hp and around 8mpg
My company's owner's truck is probably right around there with exhaust. The Roush supercharger kit claims 590 hp and torque. He said the computer is actually telling him he is getting around 14 mpg. His mpg improved with the supercharger but of course allot depends on how you drive it.
I certainly appreciate this man's efforts, but it kind of supports the use of an LS engine, doesn't it? I think that much effort would yield better results with an LS. Remember, this swap idea would primarily be for older 5.4L Raptors. I agree the next gen. Ecoboost versions won't be needing this swap.

Yeah it was extra effort to hop up the 5.4 vs an LS, but you also have to consider the huge under taking of swapping in an LS motor in the first place! They make super charger kits for the 5.4. That would be MUCH easier than trying swap in an entirely different drive train.
