Question What is Microsoft Sync?

What exactly is Microsoft sync? Looking at a 2011 F150 with it. I have an iPhone.

Excerpt from Wikipedia .....

Ford SYNC is a factory-installed, integrated in-vehicle communications and entertainment system that allows users to make hands-free telephone calls, control music and perform other functions with the use of voice commands. The system consists of applications and user interfaces developed by Ford and third-party developers, and run on the Windows Embedded Automotive operating system designed by Microsoft.

It has a problem understanding "Northern Michigan" as well. So you may as well forget Manitoban too.

Brand of phone doesn't matter. Allows hands free with the phone with the sound coming through your stereo speakers. My father-in-law loves it. He's from Oklahoma and it understands him.

Also from Oklahoma and she (I call her Betty June) don't understand me half the time. My wife Betty Ann hates the bitch.

the first word should tell you there will be issues, "Microsoft". on top of that there is that Bill and Steve never played nice together in the sandbox. then rest of system, well it's Ford electronics. should i say more?

when it works it will be nice when it decides to flake out you are SOL.

my wife had an MKZ and the Sync blew out after three months, completely dead, and it was a second or third gen unit that was "supposed to be fixed" wink wink. the replacement would flake out from time to time ( around 1 to 2 times a month ) and tell you "no phone found" as you held the phone to the dash board right against the radio.

my F150 has it now. i struggle with when it actually picks up a call, very hard to tell when you actually connect to the other person, so far mine has worked O.K. time will tell, i have only had it 5 months

mine also has issues with what i am trying to say to it, born and rasied in SE Michigan so no real accent, at least not to me. also trust me just saying commands louder does not work

If consumer reports or some other research group or mag sent me a survey on my truck, I certainly wouldn't bash the truck or Ford's line-up over sync.

However, I'm far from impressed.

Ford would have miles ahead if they had partnered with GM with the onstar system. It works great. Hell, they've developed and are continuing to develop transmissions together, why not piggy back on a system that's proven.

Just wait until your Sync decides it's too cold to operate. Mine took 2 winters before it would randomly drop out. And I don't mean just hang up. For a day here or there it becomes MIA.

Apparently Ford, well not just Ford, has forgotten a very basic engineering concept. K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid).

Roughly 75% of the time, the interactions go something like this:

Sync: "please say a command"
Me :"Phone"
Sync: "Blue tooth audio"
Me:" NO! PHONE"
Sync: "phone. please say a command"
Me: "Call Bill"
Sync: "ididntunderstandyou"
Me: "Call Bill"
Sync: "ididntunderstandyou"
Me: "C-A-L-L B-I-L-L!"
Sync: "Calling Jets Pizza"
Me: "No you dumb piece of *****! Call Bill!!!"
Sync: "Say 1 after the tone for call Bill at home. Say 2 to call Bill on cell. Say three to call Bill at work. Say 4 to call Bill on mobile. Say 5 to call Bill at his moms house. Say 6 to call Bill at his office. Say 7 to call Bill."
Me" WTF?!?!? I only have ONE number for the guy!!! Call BILL!!!!!"
Sync: "Calling Jets Pizza"
Me: "Sync, you dumb, overpriced worthless piece of *****! You mother ^^@%^%%^!!!!!!"
Sync: "ididntunderstandyou"

You get the idea.

Sync doesn't understand me half the time either.

Someone above said the type of phone doesn't matter but I would think a microsoft based phone would work better than an apple based (iphone). For example, the book says sync can do text messaging but then it goes on to say it won't with an iphone.

Sync is the reason ford quality doesn't score higher.
