I can't figure this out. Both turn signals work at the rear but I have no tail lights. Checked the filaments on the bulbs and I checked fuses. Just can't figure it out.
Use a volt tester to see if there is voltage at the socket terminals. If you have voltage, try gently pressing the bulb into the socket, with gloved fingers to see if the socket contacts will connect to the bulb terminals. I have seen many issues like this on many makes. If you do not have voltage at the socket terminal, check the connections close to the lights and work your way up to the switch.
Do the front parking lights, side markers, or dash illumination lights work?
^^^ That's the circuit the tail lights are on. The turn signals and brake lights are separate and independent, not part of the tail light circuit at all.

That's exactly why it's a prime suspect. The OP states the signals work, and presumably the brake lights work (since they're on the same filaments), although he's silent about that.
Headlight switch and its connector are def. weak points on our trucks. And it's an extremely common design, used on gazillions of American vehicles (all the big three) through the '70s well into the '90s.

The brake lights were working. All fixed now. Wiring issue at the rear!
