I bought the gallon can first. It doesn't seal well at all the second time around. I used the gallon for two coats on the bed and cab underside and the frame. I went down this am to get another quart for the inside of the doors, fenders and hood. They're going out for paint on Monday.
I need to now swap out the tunnel for the trans and cut the two rectangular holes for the ECM and wiring harness. They are round in the 2005 cab. Windshield goes in Monday, opted to let Safelite do that.....
I used that body shutz stuff and got to say I love the results....
Sorry bud, should have added that you would want to use cellophane on the lid of the Chassis Saver and then close it.
I did that....Only worked a couple of times. Chassis saver is wonderful though.
The differences between the cabs are slight but do involve some welding. I cut out my trans tunnel. Easier than you might think, just lay on top and trace around for your template. The hardest part was the firewall wiring passthroughs. The 05's were round and 99 rectangular. I'll get some pics up shortly.
I know right!! I've had a tight deadline to get this done. I leave Monday for the UK for 2 months. Goal was to get the doors hood and fenders painted. Got that done yesterday.
Wiring harness for the interior. Believe it or not, its pretty heavy. Since this attaches to the firewall it goes in before the dash. Five green bolts, two on each end and one in the middle hold the dash in place and three gold colored screws across the top. Black screws hold the dash to the frame. I used my 99 harness in the new cab. There are connector differences between the old and new.
Big difference here. The 99 had rectangular openings where the 05 had round. I made a template from the 99 lining it up with the two small round openings (small circles on the template). Another difference is the brake mount, it is a half inch different in the 05. I need to transfer the brake pedal over.
I cut the tunnel out of the 99. I laid it on top, fit like a glove. Cut and weld, easy peasy. Don't laugh at my welding....Carpet hides a multitude of faults...
This took a lot longer than I had planned. I was going to farm this out but it would have cost me between 2-3 grand. Cheapest price I found was 1500 just to spray. My drivers door had rust under the weatherstrip along the bottom. I grinded that out the best I could but now on the hunt for a new door. The rest of the doors were ok just paint chips along the bottom. A lot of sanding.
Not my finest moment. I lined the floor with plastic. Didn't work. It stuck to EVERYTHING!. It was a hot mess. It'll buff out! (I hope!)
I've already decided that im going to do the 2014 conversion next year so I'll part with the duckets to get it sprayed in a proper booth. Might go with black, I'll see how the red grows on me. Interior wise, I'm going to install King Ranch seats and door skins. I sold the old bed for 300 and cab for 350. One mans junk is anothers treasure.
