I have a E350 5.4 with 200,000 miles and it ran great before winter, this spring I fire it up and it got a miss I drive it anyway it starts to clear up and now the 1289 code. Everything looks fine coolant engine temp. I wonder if you can bypass the Cylinder Head Temp sensor. I am thinking the engine management is causing the miss to cool the engine. What do you think?
The P1289 code is NOT engine coolant temp code. It IS cylinder head temp code.
Possible causes
- Wrong thermostat
- Not at operating range
- Engine overheated
- Low engine coolant level
- Faulty Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor
- Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor harness is open or shorted
- Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor circuit poor electrical connection
When is the code detected?
The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected the cylinder head temp above or below expected values
