I just had my two problematic tanks removed from my 1990 xlt
Larait 5.8. Have had fuel tank problems since I got the truck. Gas leaks out front tank, improper fuel readings, filling problems. Rear tank filling front tank. Looks like leak comes from bad gasket at top of tanks. I'm replacing both fuel pumps and gaskets. I'm hoping all should be good when tanks go back in, anything else I should take care of to correct these issues???
Thanks

The switching unit between the two tanks has a known issue transferring fuel between tanks accidentally... It was a recall for some years: you may want to run the VIN code through Ford, and see if that recall was completed...

Thanks looks like by 1990 they did away with the switch between the 2 tanks they are "Y"
ed and both tanks send fuel out separately controlled fuel pumps. Can anyone confirm the 1990 tank set up?
1990 and later gas engine trucks do not use the dual function fuel reservoir and single external high pressure pump system. Each tank has it's own high pressure pump.
X2 ^^^
I would not reinstall that HP check valve on the new module units (FDM).
With the outside HP check valve on the modules your cross filling problem must have come from the shuttle valve.

Truck has been driving good with 2 new fuel pumps no more gas spilling on ground and both Gage's are working. No more sputtering and stalling with new connector going to distributor. Rebuilt transmission is holding up too. It shifts hard and firm not sure if that's good or not? Thanks for everyone's help on this site!
Here are some pictures of the new and improved truck known as "Pedro" 1990 xlt larait 5.8 efi
Tailgate was rusted and had big holes drilled in it all patched painted with matching spray paint color match ordered on line and ford lettering added looks good from distance lol
