88' Ranger - rear driver side drum dragging
2.3l, 5sp, 4x2, 7.5" rear-end = 9" drum brakes
I did a bit of searching but didn't find what was happening. A few months ago I changed my rear brakes and last night the wheel cylinder on the driver's side blew. The problem (I think) is the front shoe seems to pull up and to the left (which is the front of the truck in this case) So the leg that inserts into the shoe that is supposed to contact the piston is not hitting it square. Probably the reason the last one blew so quick.
As far as I can tell all the springs, clips, adjusters are in the right places. No matter what I do it shifts and the top of the front shoe drags on the drum.
I could prob get a pic if needed, but i have already put new shoes & cylinder on the drivers side. It is still dragging just like it was.
I talked to an old brake mechanic yesterday and he seemed to think the cable was binding inside not allowing it to fully return. I showed him the 2 pics I have, and was able to answer all his questions that ruled out almost all other options. IDK, maybe. I will have to look at it this weekend again I guess.
Things are much easier when you have a lift..... Haha. Anyway, even though the e-brake cable is drooping, it is apparently seized inside the sleeve. So it is not fully returning when released.
I will have to get a replacement to see if it is finally resolved but for now it just got some whacks with a hammer to give it some slack.
