I have a problem with my excursion that I need some expertise and guidance on. First, I have a 2005 Ford Excursion Eddie Bauer Ed. with a 6.0 L @approximately 150,000 miles. The oil and fuel filters were changed in the last six months. My roof monitor(computer) is not working (due to the tiny chip needing a re-solder). I have not checked for water in the separator. I recently had the EGR delete done on it and upon driving it home noticed a slight sputter. I brought it back to the company that did the EGR work and they hooked a computer to it and we took it for a drive. During the drive the mechanic stated it was a bad injector. I asked why this wasn't noticed during a test drive before giving the vehicle back but didn't really get a good solid answer(regardless-neither here nor there). He did give me a quote to replace the one injector @$1600(ford OEM injector). I thought WOW (just spent some cheddar on the EGR) for one injector (seemed high & what if another goes out right after). He also said they would not install anything other than ford OEM so based on that I had to look for a different mechanic (that was good, but I could afford-I'm on a FF budget). My question is does anyone have experience purchasing injectors for a fair price (that are a good quality, reputable, and fair priced). If so where? Ive been told to avoid Fla. diesel on ebay but so far that's all Ive got. Please help!
That shop is insane for wanting to charge $1600 to replace 1 injector....HOWEVER.....he is correct in saying you should only use a Ford OEM injector on your truck. It's been awhile since I checked the price, but I "think" a Ford injector will cost about $250 after your old one is returned for the core. So he's charging about $1350 to install it.
I am in Louisiana near Baton Rouge. I have found a few sellers on ebay that sell sets of "remanufactured OEM injectors" but basically I just wanted to find out what others who have experience similar have chosen and what results they had. Also, if anyone has any input on websites that might help me save on the cost. I plan on changing out all 8 because I would prefer not to encounter this again if I can avoid it.
ficmrepair.com is where i purchased my injectors. I had all four replaced on the passenger side bank as I was experiencing what I would call a dead miss when hot. Contribution showed 5 and 7 as a little low so we did the entire side.
I can't recommend ficmrepair.com enough. Ed and everyone else there I dealt with were outstanding. If I remember correctly they were $385 ish up front with a $180 core charge per injector.
My mechanic charged just under $500 to replace all four.
I would like to know if anyone out there has purchased replacement injectors on eBay or from maybe another less expensive supplier? If so, results?
Go to www.fordparts.com create an account, choose autonation ford, white bear lake MN as your shopping dealer, enter your VIN number and search for your injectors, they will be 204 each with a 180 dollar core charge that is returned to you once the core injector are returned. Creating an account lets you choose next day shipping for 9.95 and no sales tax. I would be very leery of buying parts on ebay even if they claim to be OEM remans. Another good thing about buying them from autonation is that they are a ford dealer and therefore the injectors carry a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. You also need to verify your fuel system pressure, it needs to stay above 45 PSI at all times including WOT, low fuel pressure is the leading cause of injector damage.
