injectors again?

hey everyone,

just curious what everyone has done for an injector "fix". I have a 2005 F-350 6.0. Had the injectors done, all 8, about 3 years ago. i have hardly put 25000 km (15500 mi) on it since and experiencing horrible fuel mileage again and what i would say to feel like a misfire when under load or moderate to heavy acceleration. I have heard of a few products that might correct the issues i am having right now, any recommendations?

I know the leading factor to all my problems is the truck is parked alot and for long periods of time and these 6.0s need to be driven regularly to keep it in top form.

Looking for any advice and suggestions before i get all geared up to pull injectors again.

Quick break down on the truck:
2005 F350 6.0
197000 km (122400 mi) roughly
EGR delete
ARP Head Bolts
H&S SRT Pro street tuner
oem replacement injectors ( about 3 years ago)
6" lift
6" exhaust

thanks in advance

Just to add to this, after just replacing two myself, knowing they're oil driven injectors, do injectors fail primarily as a result of oil contaminants or fuel contaminents?

I know Archoil seems to help for stiction but what about failure?

Oil and fuel will make injectors fail. What kind of injectors did you replace with?? Might want to check you alternator, load test batteries and check your ficm voltage. Archoil will not fix a failed injector. Will fix injector stiction. Need to see if any codes are thrown and possibly could be something other than injectors. Also really need to do a contribution test on it to see if it is injectors.

I am doing alot of browsing and it seems fuel pressure is a major issue. gonna pick up that kit and do it for sure. probably gonna have to pony up for injectors too. I have a very basic scan tool and all its throwing for codes is a glow plug, which too has been replaced prior. no other codes no lights

Helps with lubricating the injectors. Ashless oil. But that won't cause your injectors going out, not using it.as stated, need to check fuel pressure and the charging system.

I have 208,xxx mi. on my current '07 & 125,xxx on my '04 I traded, never once did I ever experience injector issues. I run 10w-30 Plus 50 II Deere lube and BP diesel supreme fuel with the Deere fuel additive(blended for them by Stanadyne).

Sorry to hear you are having issues, advice above is all good. Blue spring update I wouldn't hesitate doing, along with checking batteries, alternator and FICM. Change your fuel filters per service interval (15,000 mi.)

I know when I did the orings on my oil rail it made a differnce and smoothed things out. Wonder if this could contribute to your situation too.

Interesting. I didn't pull any codes on my OBD or Dashboss but my local shop, with their equipment, showed my #6 injector was dead and my #2 had failed at one time, also pulling that particular code.

My FICM runs between 48.5-49.5 so all well there. If that's good, why would alternator and batteries be a concern? Are injectors also affected off of the 12v source?

I change my oil and filter every 5k and my current oil has only 1k when the failure occurred. Recently changed both fuel filters without any sign of moisture.

All my other diagnostics seemed to be close when checked. EBP, IPR, ICP, MAP, EGR, VGT, MAF, etc. I did clean my EGR and EBP sensors initially to help resolve.

I had just ran 100 miles pulling our 15,5k trailer without issue and unhooked, drove 35 miles and all of a sudden a miss?

Just like to get ahead of the injector failure curve if possible.

I am in the process of diagnosing a miss also. I have a fuel pressure gauge but it is standard 1/8 NPT. I have to adapt it over to M12X1.5 to go into the fuel housing. I could not get that fitting (M12X1.5 to 1/8 NPT) anywhere locally. I had to order it online. So I wait.

Just thought I'd share.

I threw that out because your injectors are ran by the ficm voltage which is ran by battery voltage/alternator. If your ficm is pushing 48-49 volts then chances are your batteries/alternator is good. But wouldn't hurt to test them to make sure they are up to par. Something is causing your injectors to fail prematurely, fuel pressure, poor fuel, electrical. Or just junk injectors. Have to figure out what is causing them to go out. Got to test everything to rule out things instead of throwing parts and money at it.

Truck is running like new again, once those two injectors were replaced. Hate to think of having this problem again half way across the country. Pretty unpredictable to fail.
What the heck?

Well update on my mess. Rather than check fuel pressure, I went ahead and did the blue spring upgrade ($134 in alberta) and put in all new fuel filters. Seems to start better and run a little better. Still the occasional miss while driving. Tomorrow I have the day off so far and I plan on checking the voltage on the FICM. Will update as I get the chance.

Knowing your fuel pressure is an absolute must as low fuel pressure will kill the injectors. And if you are running tuned it will compound the problem. As far as I am concerned monitoring fuel pressure on a continual basis is also a must. The fuel pressure needs to remain above 45 PSI at all times including WOT.
