I have an engine that I just ripped out of my old truck. Was thinking about rebuilding it but need to know what it is first. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Yes.. well actually it could be a 302 from any year 1987 and on, but most likely to have been built in '87 or 88. And if it is from one of the cars I mentioned it would have a decent roller cam in it, you will need to measure cam lobe lift to know for sure but you don't need to totally dismantle it to do that. The motor looks pretty clean in those pics, was it burning oil or down on compression?
I'm not sure about the compression, and I am fairly certain it was not burning oil. It was installed in my 1953 F100, but I took it out since im rebuilding the entire truck. I am selling it on FB for $500, if I don't sell it I will break it down and have a machine shop clean everything up.
That's an 87 motor. The "7D11" is the date code. "7" is 1987, "C" is March, "11" is the date of the month. Got to be a Stang 5.0 HO most likely. Has E7TE heads on it, the "T" cast in that corner next to the valve cover denotes an E7TE head casting. Could also have come out of a Lincoln Mark VII too. The cam will tell you which application it is. Not sure which heads the T-Bird came with that year. Coulda been either E7's or E6's. They for certain came with the base roller that year, same as the Vic's got.
