My power steering pump was making a loud whining sound. No problem, changed the pump. Now after the truck is started I will have no power steering or brake assist, give the truck a little gas and you can hear the power steering pump "start". I have tried every way to get the air out, or is that not the problem. I even lifted the front of the truck off the ground with a forklift and with the truck off turned the wheel about six times stop to stop. Fluid level looks good and has since adding after the change. Need help!!! Please!!
I've never heard a p.s. pump "start". Is it a new or rebuilt? If rebuilt you may have a bad one. Another tip, when going lock to lock purging air always have the front wheels off the ground if on a hard surface. Your steering box will thank you.
Also once the pump is working properly I would install a 3/8" Magnefine filter in the return line from the booster to the reservoir. It does however sound like the pump is having problems. If it was never run dry it shoul be working. No rocket science involved here.
