Rear Cargo Area Storage Box/Organizer. PICS!

I just finished a project that I have been working on for the past 8 months. It didn't take 8 months to build obviously but I always have about 20 projects going at the same time so some of them get pushed to the back burner.

I bet that most excursion owners have a Rubbermaid tub full of straps, tools, jumper cables, etc.

I was fed up with the constant mess that my box was in so I made this one. I hope you all like it and can use the idea for yourself.

Nice. I've been thinking about making drawers for mine. Seems I pile a bunch of crap on top then it is hard to open. I actually made this one for another vehicle but it ended up fitting decently in the Ex so I stole it haha.

With the amount of time and precision I have in it, $5000 should just about cover it......

Are you able to still access your cubby hole where the jack is without man handling that thing out of there?
Looks like you left enough room for your spare tire too even!

That price isn't too far off from the "SUV" boxes I've been finding. None of them look like they would ever fit that well.

I think I could get in the jack door if needed but my plan is to build a little box next to this one where the spare usually sits. I will put a better jack (10-20ton bottle jack maybe) over there. My 37" spare won't fit in that spot anyway...... My next project is a swing out tire carrier that mounts to the hitch for my spare.

Very nicely done! Would love to get more details on the materials you used as well as dimensions. Been planning on doing something similar this spring but haven't gotten to it yet. Yours is great motivation as it's very similar to what I had in mind.

Well done box! I would like to get the plans for this. Or a detailed build thread would be awesome. Thank you for the pictures. If there is any way I could get some plans please let me know.

Sorry no plans. All of my projects usually start out as an idea in my head. They rattle around in there for a day or a year. Kind of like a rock polisher! The idea keeps changing and refining until I see the final product. I then measure the intended location and start building. Along the way I refine more and more. So again sorry no plans. Dimensions are the size of your cargo space.

I will be nice though and take some better pics. Latch, slides, bottom, etc for you all.

Here is a list of some of the materials used.

3/4 MDF top
1x6 and 1x4 pine for most of the frame.
1/2" plywood for drawer bottoms
1 1/4" dowel split in half for rim around the top.
Outdoor carpet (tan from menards)
100# full extention slide (28"?) from menards (online order)
Tool box latches from eBay
Screws and glue
White Oak drawer fronts

I think all together I have maybe $150 in it.

Hope this helps some.

Kyle

Looks good, would also be a good way to do some downfire subs in the front portion of the box. Might have to add this to my to-do-list reps sent
