1992 F-150 xlt stock brake controller?

Trailer lights/brakes plug

So I have a '92 F-150 (302/5.0 V8) with the "tow package" which includes the "big" transmission for this model, a proper ball hitch mount, and the plug you can see in this pic. My question is, does that mean I also have a factory brake controller that just isn't obvious like an aftermarket one would be? Or at least an easy pigtail to plug one in to?

I've got a 1963 KenCraft 24' travel trailer I'm restoring and one of the things that I'll be getting in to before long is the electric braking system.

Thanks in advance for any insight...

AFAIK, the 1992 Fords never came with a FACTORY BRAKE CONTROLLER. It was WIRED for a trailer (your photo) but an aftermarket controller had to be used. I had a '92 F250 and I had to put my own controller in it.

Excellent, so there should be a plug under the dash or do I still need to splice into a harness somewhere?

I don't remember.... I believe that a '92 had the wiring already there. Just gotta find it.

If it is prewired for a controller you should also find fuse holders in the fuse box for the lights and signals. I am pulling this from memory, but my 99 had that and separate flashers as part of the tow package.

I had a '94 F150 with the same setup you have, everything on the back of your truck "should" already be "hot"

The connector for the brake controller should be just to the right as I recall of the steering column.....

Unless you feel the need to spend the $$ for the fancy brake controllers on the market, I have had the Tekonsha Voyager model in my last 3 trucks and its a great simple controller!

My '95 F250 had a Tekonsha Voyager installed when I purchased it. It appeared to be a dealer install as it looked factory.

Awesome, $78 doesn't look that bad for a controller.
