Ignition Switch Alignment -- 62 F250
Would someone happen to have a picture of what it should look like inside?
Thanks
Left: Pic from 1957/63 Ford truck catalog. It's hard to make out these parts in this jungle, so...
Right: Here's a much better pic from the 1964/72 catalog.
The cylinder must be removed from the switch first, then the bezel is removed. Same sequence when being reinstalled.
Thanks. I have those pictures.
I originally took the cylinder out using the correct method, but that was 3 years ago. I had someone else do all the body work for me, but he didn't put the cylinder back when he restored the dash area.
I think the alignment in the back of the switch is off (ie at the wrong angle). He started it with a screwdriver to give it back to me. I have the cylinder and key, I just need to know what the inside alignment should look like.
None of my books show the inside alignment and none of the youtube videos I have found so far show it either.
Thoughts?
To minimize any confusion, before you start twist the switch housing around until the "off" position on the bezel is straight up. Make sure the three tabs of the spacer behind the dash are positioned properly in the slots in the dash behind the bezel. You may have to wiggle the tumbler a bit (DO NOT FORCE) but eventually it will go in after which you will insert a paper clip or something and turn the key back to "acc". Never mind that these films are about Mustangs- the procedure is the same.

When it was out I made sure the alignment of the slot in the back of the switch was set correctly with the cylinder. I put the assemble back together correctly and the cylinder snapped into place.
Thanks everyone.
