Hey hoping someone can shed some light here I've got a 2000 v10 excursion just had a front end alignment about a month ago excellent shop that specializes in truck suspensions according to them everything underneath is in good shape but several times now while driving all of a sudden the steering wheel starts shaking or wiggling right to left.i believe each time has been after turning and recentering wheel to continue straight on.at first I thought maybe a caliper or break issue so upon checking them I decided to replace both front calipers and pads since I found a small leak and they were looking pretty rough.it was great for the breaks but had no positive effect on the wobble.im kinda stumped so if anyone's experienced this I would really appreciate some feedback thanks all for any responses.
Gene thank you for the suggestion I wasn't really thinking about the tires because by appearance their in good shape but that doesn't mean there's not an underlying issue like a bad belt. It's certainly well worth a try rotating them and that's what's great about being able to put it out there on the forums you will get others looking at it from another angle your missing.so again thank you and I'll try it as soon as possible
I have a tire that causes wobble when it is put on the front of the X, and takes special attention when balanced. My issue only impacts at certain speeds.
Tires being bad could be the problem but it depends if you feel it at curtain speed or constantly. And also depends on what the problem is with the tire. Tires get unballanced after awhile and/or can seperate, while both problems can cause some of the same issues, like wobbling or bouncing of the steering wheel, pulling to one side, a seperated tire is a lil worse than an unaballanced one in the sense that its are more of a risk to explode which is worse than just getting a flat tire. While you do the rotation check the roundness of the tire while they are off the truck and check the inside sidewall as well. Tires sepereate on sidewall and tread so look carefully. Tread seperation is sometime harder to see especially on the truck but off its usually easy, look for uneven surfaces on tread, side wall will be bubbles or tire pimples. good luck.
You are quite welcome. As was noted don't just go by a visual inspection. A bad tire can look like it is in great condition, especially on the vehicle. "Luckily" spending time with small fleets lets me have the fun of tracking down all sorts of weird problems.
