antilock ring on 8.8 differential

Does anyone know a good reason why the antilock ring cannot be reused if it is removed? Ford shop manual says not to reused the ring. I took great care in removing mine and see nothing wrong with it.

if no damage, I would reuse. Do this routinely on things the book says to "replace".
