I hadn't worked thru it yet but my idea was to use a late model 3rd brake light combined with a bed light to mount over the rear window. Need to take a pattern to the salvage yard.......
I have a '69 F100 Ranger and realize it's very different from a '48 to '56 model but, I converted my factory cargo light to double as a high-mount 3rd brake light using an 1157 dual element socket and a white/red switchback LED. I wired the 3rd brake light off the switched side of the brake pedal switch. While my truck is different than the ones in this forum's section, someone might be able to apply the basic principles I used in my conversion.
How does one wire the light just to go in when braking? Meaning, not blink when the turn signal is on.
Thanks in advance.
Most of us are running around with a combined s/t/t lamp. With That said you could certainly run a new wire to the brake light switch just for the CHMSL.
Or you could wire in a tail light converter that will separate the s/t/t functions into stop/tail and turn.
I have a 2500HD for my "real" truck duties...the F100 is just Sunday-go-to-meetin' and general eye-candy, in fact the tailgate on the F100 is bolted shut.
