Third brake light options???

lets see your third brake light ideas....

I am thinking about what I like better.

adding something to the cab, or something to the bed....

What did you do???

this guy used a weld in kit from this company.Hitech Led Products

I think the light on the tail gate roll is neat.

And how can you go wrong with bed roll lights.

I hadn't worked thru it yet but my idea was to use a late model 3rd brake light combined with a bed light to mount over the rear window. Need to take a pattern to the salvage yard.......

I put bed lights and a third brake light. Sorry I don't have a photo of all on at the same time but they do work that way.

Now that wiring is complete third brake light comes on with tail lights and bed lights. Very bright from behind.

I added one under the bed to shine on the road. I think I got the idea here.

How does one wire the light just to go in when braking? Meaning, not blink when the turn signal is on.
Thanks in advance.

First thought to my brain is wire them directly to the brake light switch.

I have a '69 F100 Ranger and realize it's very different from a '48 to '56 model but, I converted my factory cargo light to double as a high-mount 3rd brake light using an 1157 dual element socket and a white/red switchback LED. I wired the 3rd brake light off the switched side of the brake pedal switch. While my truck is different than the ones in this forum's section, someone might be able to apply the basic principles I used in my conversion.

This is how I did the modification on my truck.

Most of us are running around with a combined s/t/t lamp. With That said you could certainly run a new wire to the brake light switch just for the CHMSL.

Or you could wire in a tail light converter that will separate the s/t/t functions into stop/tail and turn.

I have given this technique some thought...although I haven't seen it done until now. Any idea of where this photo came from?

My only concern would be anything too long for the bed sitting on top of the tailgate possibly cracking this...but I use my truck as a truck!

I have a 2500HD for my "real" truck duties...the F100 is just Sunday-go-to-meetin' and general eye-candy, in fact the tailgate on the F100 is bolted shut.
