I'm in the process of doing some work on my F-250. One of the things I'm doing is wiring the cargo light to one of the upfitter switches. While I was working on it yesterday, I realized the stock cargo light in the 3rd brake light is not quite all that bright...
I'm wondering if anyone had upgraded theres? Is there a good aftermarket or Ford solution to get some more light out of this thing?
yes there is, get some led bulbs for it and problem solved.
heres some suggestions, ill also be doing this. and if you want more light in your bed i strongly suggest bed lights look how much light i get in my bed at night im just doing the cargo lights so that they match my bed lights.
its my understanding ford changes makers of the cargo/brake light in about 13 and the new one has a slightly nice look, more jeweled so to speak. i switched to one a few month ago and put slightly higher wattage bulbs in it
i like the oem look of the light and its output better than the aftermarket LED ones sold, but u can check into those also i know recon makes some

you switched to the newer style cargo lights? was that a direct fit or did you have to drill new holes? i switched to the highest quality bulb at any of the auto parts store around me and i didnt get better output at all, but its probably because my 3rd brake light and cargo lights are all oxidized and yellowing.
might have to pick one up if its not too pricey. yeah they are whiteish. they were sylvania silverstars or silverstar ultras. wasnt much whiter but i blame the 3rd brake light housing for that. gonna get leds for a brighter whiter light.
