hello new to the forum i just bought an old 350 with 4x4 conversion. the motor is a v10 and has bit the dust i want to remover the body from the frame but need some help with what needs to happen step by step i have located all the body bolts and have access to all but the front ones on each side of the frame i was wondering if these were actual bolts or just locating pins there are no holes to access a bolt any info would be greatly appreciated
They should be bolts.....there's a few people here that have posted pics and swapped bodies before maybe 6 months ago. Use the Forum Search and you might find them.....
thanks i did search but didnt find many photos i have looked up inside the frame rail on the front and i see the body bolt but no nut or washer on them since this is a conversion im wondering if they simply didnt replace the two front ones also the others are severely rusted can i drill them out and just put in new bolts
thank you for the replies i did read each of those posts and i had determined that i can simply cut off the heads of the body bolts since thy are severely rust and wont turn at all and this will release the body from the frame then i can remove the frame and motor together giving me room to work on the remaining body supports. i also noticed that the heater bypass tube running under the manifold has broken off at the connection with the back of the water pump any idea where i could find another back for the water pump and a new bypass tube i have seen new water pumps dont come with the backing plate
thanks hotairjunkie actuallu i searched google before i even joined this forum and located your posts and that is what gave me the ***** to start this project. the van i have was purchased on ebay and it does run but it has some huge coolant leaking issues since you still have the v10 on your old chassis i am in need of the backing plate for the water pump and the heater tube that is attached to it. i have never worked on a v10 before so im not sure what all has to come off to get to these parts i plan on learn as you go type of project. the good thing is the 4x4 is allready there just very rusty thanks to all for the help what a god send this forum is to guys like me
hotairjunkie do you have a list of what things you had to remove or disassemble in order to lift the body from the frame? i have drilled off the heads from all the body bolts and have sucessfully lifted the rear of the body however the front of the body dose not seem to want to lift. i have searched and searched but dont see anything else holding the frame to the body i would appreciate any suggestions
Somewhere on YouTube is a video done by an auto shop where they show that lifting the body is actually less work than trying to pull the engine with the body in place. They did the job both ways tracked the man-hours on it. Pulling the body won by a comfortable margin.
I know he posted this 5 years ago, but for anybody following this resurrected thread:

There are a ton of things holding the body that aren't bolts! Brake lines, wiring harnesses, steering column, and on and on!
