Hi, y'all. Looking at a e350 club wagon excuse idiot questions.... It had the rear ac previously, but the last owner cut and trashed the rear a/c. It was the old school refrigerant. I live in S Florida. HOT HOT HOT.
If i get the van and manage to find another rear a/c unit (where would I look) and recharge it with the new refrigerant (and run the lines again), would that then be strong enough to keep up with being stuck on i-95 in a traffic jam in August hot?
It's been mentioned before this "generation" nonsense does NOT help others help you---what year and chassis are you asking about? Sadly I can't fing any references in parts catalogs about "3rd generation", only year, make, model. fuel type and engine CID.
The swap to 134 was mid generation so a specific year would be helpful on what you may need. The front condensor was changed in '92 i believe and the actual swap to 134 was in '94. If the rear system has been gutted, it will be a pita to find replacement lines and parts. A donor van would be your best bet. There are different systems too. Factory and customs from conversion companies. There are quite a few posts on ac issues but any older van is going to struggle in a Florida traffic jam.
Most rear AC were disconnected because of a leak in the lines running to the rear.Replacing the lines can get expensive, especially if the leak is at or near where the lines go through the floor at the rear.
these are the guys with the water & freon line solutions. check out their Smart Splice and LOKRING solutions. CA gets hot too, less humidity than you tho. having 4 kids and travelling w/o rear a/c would have been the death of me.rear a/c mandatory. also look into the adding of a heater control valve in the line to front heater core - on my '95 hot water runs the the core all the time. adding a valve takes a bunch of heat out of the heater/ac box and gives you cooler air. or makes your system work less for the same cooling you get now. dunno your year, but i would look into it and see if it applies to your van
